A/PROF ANDY RATCHFORD

MBBS FRCS DIPL MC RCS(ED) FCEM FACEM

Dr Andrew Ratchford is currently the Director of Emergency Medicine at Northern Beaches Hospital, Sydney. He has worked previously in the North East of England and London as a consultant in Emergency Medicine and for the Helicopter Emergency Medicine Service in London treating critically injured adults and children. He is a co-author of “What to Do When Your Child Gets Sick- the essential emergency manual for parents and carers”. He teaches Advanced Life Support for adults and children both in Australia and overseas (Cambodia, Fiji and Sri Lanka), and is one of the Directors of the Australian Institute of Clinical Education. Andy is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney. The Emergency staff at Mona Vale Hospital have resuscitated countless people with either or both mammalian meat anaphylaxis and tick anaphylaxis, and due to the proximity to the local national parks see a high proportion of tick related ED presentations.

In June 2021 Dr Andrew Ratchford was appointed Clinical Associate Professor at the Northern Beaches Hospital Clinical School, Macquarie University School of Medicine.

This is a wonderful achievement and a great tribute to all the work that Clinical Associate Professor Ratchford and his colleagues have done and continue to do in the Department of Emergency Medicine, within the community and with the research into tick induced allergies: mammalian meat allergies and tick anaphylaxis and tick-borne illnesses.
